Keith Vaughan
Year 10 start the year looking at the theme of encounters experiences and meetings, they begin a sketchbook that initially records their first thoughts and ideas surrounding the topic. Students explore the figurative work of Keith Vaughan, where they experiment with a range of materials ranging from charcoal, oil pastel and printing.

Students create a final piece drawing upon the skills and techniques they practiced over the previous terms.

Portraits
Students form a sketchbook around the topic of portraits, they enhance their tonal drawing skills through the studying of facial features. Students learn the process of colour miking in order to create realistic skin tones which they use to create a self-portrait. Students explore the work of Paula Rego and experiment with using oil pastel to create a portrait.

Personal project
Year 10 start their unit 1 personal project in term 5. The project is formed on a theme of their choice where students research a variety of artists that link to their topic and create a series of outcomes that develop their own thoughts and ideas. Students experiment with a range of materials and techniques to develop their project.

Students will be working towards completing the component 1 – personal project of their final GCSE. This section of the coursework is worth 60% of the final GCSE grade and as such is a vital period of learning for the students.
