Year 6 to 7 Transition September 25/26 & 26/27 FAQs

Year 6-7 Transition

Welcome to Swindon Academy!

At Swindon Academy, we work hard to provide a caring and secure bridge between Years 6 and 7, making the transition from Primary to Secondary a positive and fulfilling experience. Your child will have every opportunity to reach aspirational goals and targets in a secure and caring environment.

Year 7 is both a fun and challenging year where students will develop key life skills in a community that maintains high expectations of behaviour and conduct and continually drives our core values of Hard Work, Kindness, and Responsibility.

Transition

Transition can be a time of many changes, including:

  • A new and bigger school-working environment
  • Changes in teachers
  • New friendship groups
  • Being around older students
  • Movement around the school

In Year 7, we have minimised these changes by ensuring our students feel safe and confident in their first year. It is vital that each child knows who to turn to if they need someone to talk to. To this end, students will be assigned a Student Champion, who will be with their tutor during year 7. In addition, your child will also have a Head of Year and a Year Manager who are solely dedicated to the year group. They are hugely supportive and influential staff members, an ever-visible, caring, and supportive addition that you and your child will quickly become familiar with. They will also have a Character Lead who promote character and culture within the year group along with championing our school values.

We consistently strive to get the best out of our students by focusing on our values and behaviour and structured learning environment, which provides a successful transition for the students.

We look forward to working in partnership with you and your child here at the Academy.
