PSHE

Intent

At Swindon Academy, our PSHE curriculum allows children to:

  • develop a sense of self, belonging, an awareness of health (mental and physical) and a respect for diversity within our society.
  • embrace the challenges of creating a happy and successful adult life,
  • gain knowledge that enables them to make informed decisions about their own wellbeing, health and relationships
  • build their self-efficacy
  • develop the capacity to make sound decisions and develop resilience when facing risks, challenges and complex contexts

Implementation

Our PSHE curriculum is designed to support continuous development using the Jigsaw scheme of work:

  • through teaching of discrete weekly lessons
  • by referring to and building upon taught skills as and when the need arises
  • by following a progressive, spiral curriculum that revisits previous learning
  • by adding new concepts, skills and knowledge year on year
  • by underpinning all aspects of the curriculum

Impact

All pupils …

  • will be a unique individual and understand how they have been shaped by their experiences and actions.
  • will have an understanding of perception and how others’ may view them differently or have different expectations.
  • will understand that a variety of factors may influence prejudice and discrimination.
  • will talk about their dreams and goals.
  • will justify how emotions can affect choices.
  • will understand why people experience different feelings in a shared experience.
  • will discuss changes that themselves or others may experience in their lives.
