Day of the Dead – Grid method and Drawing
Year 8 start their creative journey, learning about the Mexican Day of the Dead. We begin by advancing on the drawing techniques that we learn at the end of year 7. Students learn how to use the grid method to develop their proportions and we have a greater focus on development of realistic drawing methods such as tonal shading.

Day of the Dead – Dip pen and ink – Mark making
Students develop their drawing skills in term two through the use of mark making and learning to draw with a dip pen and ink. This technique allows students to explore drawing in a gestural and expressive way.

Day of the Dead – Papel Picado and Collage
Year 8 continue with the Day of the Dead theme in term 3 by exploring some of the traditions of the festival. Students will have a go at making their own Papel Picado flag and learn about collage and composition.

Day of the Dead – Creating a 3D skull
In term 4 we round off the Day of the Dead project by creating a large 3D skull that incorporates many of the techniques we have learnt across the year. Students will get to take home their wonderful creations at the end of term 4.

Colour – Embroidery techniques and Painting
In term 5 Year 8 will begin to incorporate embroidery and painting techniques into their project. Here we look at the use of colour through a variety of different media and look at how we can use textiles to introduce new ways of working into our sketchbooks.
