Clubs
Participation in clubs and societies complements time spent in the classroom. We see it as vital to pupils’ wellbeing.
Our highly motivated and ambitious pupils participate enthusiastically in the wide-ranging co-curricular and extra-curricular programme. SWINDON ACADEMY VISION
We are a busy school and all pupils are encouraged to join clubs and push their boundaries. With more than 30 different activities on offer each week*, the biggest problem pupils face is how to fit them all in. Clubs run before school, at lunchtime and after school every day and our extracurricular programme goes hand in hand with our academic programme. A sample of the types of clubs available to pupils can be found below.
*Clubs will resume in Term 2.
An example of the types and range of clubs that we offer can be viewed here.
Trips and Visits
School trips play a crucial role in our curriculum and help to bring classroom-based learning to life. All subjects offer trips as part of the syllabus ranging from day trips in the local area to camping trips and foreign holidays.
Curriculum visits, to destinations varying from the local Sikh Temple to Disney World Paris at Christmas, bring subjects to life with hands-on experiences and the thrill of seeing a classroom topic in action.
Expeditions help pupils gain the confidence to take appropriate risks and the resilience to cope with adversity. Our Year 8 Camping Trip includes a range of outdoor challenges and activities. Many of our pupils go on to join the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
Colleges
The College system is hugely popular at Swindon Academy and we have four Colleges – Bath, Cambridge, Imperial and Warwick. They create an extra layer of belonging to the school community and provide pupils with excellent opportunities to mix with other years in a variety of fun Inter-College competitions and events.
Lunchtimes are frequently filled with laughter and cheers as pupils compete at Inter-College baking, football and quizzes, to name but a few.
Highlights of the ‘College Year’ are the College Dance Competition, where each College unites to perform a dance in their own unique style, and Sports Day, where College spirit comes to the fore and every event is loudly supported.
