Academic Excellence

Academic Ethos

We seek to maximise all pupils’ potential: achievement at Swindon Academy is outstanding and our pupils routinely accomplish amazing feats that even they did not think possible. Our pupils across the whole ability range prove to themselves time and again that there are no limits to what they can do.

Our pupils love learning.  They make exceptional progress as they journey through our schools, reaching high levels of achievement.            SWINDON ACADEMY VISION

We seek to instil curiosity and a love of learning in all our pupils. This starts with the outstanding teaching, guidance and support of our teaching staff, who pass on to pupils their passion for their subject and for learning.

Teachers deliver expert lessons, informed by assessment and grounded in strong subject knowledge.  SWINDON ACADEMY VISION

Our pupils are encouraged to develop strong independent learning habits. Alongside this, we foster creativity and collaboration, while teaching our pupils to debate and challenge ideas. Our pupils thrive on collaboration - it can be seen in every lesson and in the huge array of extracurricular projects in which they participate.

Our Curriculum

Years 7 - 9

Throughout Years 7-9, the curriculum is broad, stimulating and exciting, and aims to expose pupils to a broad range of subjects in order to let them find their passions. In addition to mainstream academic subjects, all pupils have one lesson per week of PSHE (personal, social and health education), for which there is no homework and where the emphasis is on discussion and debate.

Our pupils benefit from a broad and rich knowledge-based curriculum which develops their skills, deepens their understanding and opens new doors to future success.  Pupils are empowered to think and act confidently in the world and compete in a global workforce.    SWINDON ACADEMY VISION

Our pupils, parents and educators work in partnership, communicating and collaborating to enrich pupils' learning, using technology creatively and intelligently.    SWINDON ACADEMY VISION

GCSE Studies

For Years 10 and 11, pupils study eight or nine GCSEs, depending on preferences. All pupils take maths, English Language and Literature and either three separate sciences or Double Award Science GCSEs. Most pupils study Spanish and at least one humanity (history, geography or religious studies). Beyond this guidance, many combinations of subjects are possible. Pupils are strongly encouraged to continue to pursue a wide range of extracurricular activities, in order to maintain breadth and balance in their lives.
