Grammar Stream Admissions Process

If you are interested in finding out more about the Grammar Stream please follow the steps below:

Step 1

Read all the information pages, specifically the Information Events, Taster Sessions and Entrance Exam pages to give you an understanding of all the opportunities available to find out more about the Grammar Stream.

Step 2

If you would like to proceed and attend the Grammar Stream events, fill out the Register Your Interest Form which can be found on the Register your Interest page. Once you have registered your child with us, we will keep in touch via email to promote Grammar Stream events.

Step 3

Current Year 6 pupils applying for a place at Secondary School in Year 7:

As a state school, all our pupils are allocated through the Borough Council. Please complete the Secondary School Application on the Swindon Borough Council website.  You have until 31st October to apply for a school place.  If you wish to be considered for the Grammar Stream then Swindon Academy will need to be your first school preference.  Please put a note in your application that it is Grammar Stream that you are interested in applying for.

Step 4

Parents are offered school places on 1st March by Swindon Borough Council.  Parents must accept the place no later than 15th March.  Once you have accepted your place at Swindon Academy we will contact you to invite your child to sit the Entrance Exam.

Step 5

Parents will receive notification of the Exam results with a few school days of the test.

Step 6

Subject to success in the Entrance Exam, Swindon Academy Transition Team will contact parents to invite them to attend a Grammar Stream Transition Meeting at the end of June. 

Step 7

Pupils spend a day at Swindon Academy as part of the transition process.

If you would like to proceed and attend the Grammar Stream events, fill out the Early Register Your Interest Form which can be found on the Register your Interest page. On these pages you have an opportunity to select all the events that you would like to attend.
