Entry Requirements

At Swindon Academy we treat all students as individuals and ensure that our advice and guidance given is in line with students' qualifications, interests, career aspirations, passions and skills. On this basis, places may be offered following a meeting with applicants, discussing their unique requirements and deciding if our Sixth Form is the right place for them and the subjects they wish to pursue.

If you have any queries, you can arrange a call by emailing Mr Lewis at:

For entry into our mainstream sixth form, students ideally will have gained at least grade 5 – 9, or equivalent, in five or more GCSEs including English and maths. Students will also need to achieve at least grade 5 in the subjects they wish to study at A Level. If they wish to take a new subject, their achievement in a similar GCSE subject will be considered. Any entry requirements that differ from this are stated in the course details. Interviews are a vital part of our application process. NB: For Sixth Form STEM Grammar Stream applicants, please see below.

Engaging in the STEM Grammar Stream study programme enables students who wish to study science, technology, engineering or maths at a top university after sixth form. Students with STEM-related career aspirations will study their chosen subjects whilst benefiting from an extensive curriculum enrichment and guidance programme provided by Marlborough College. STEM Grammar Stream students must study at least 2 STEM subjects.

To be considered for the STEM Grammar Stream, students must have a minimum of a GCSE grade 5 in English and maths, and a minimum of a grade 7 or higher in each of the STEM subjects they wish to study.
