Pratiksha becomes the school’s first student to secure a place studying Medicine at university

Today, students and staff at United College Sixth Form (UCSF) – which is based at Swindon Academy – are celebrating another year of A Level success.

In recognition of their hard work over the past two years, over one-third (35%) of A Level entries achieved grades A*-B and almost three-quarters (74%) of entries achieved grades A*-C. The vast majority of students were offered their first choice of higher education.

Notably, Sixth Form student Pratiksha, who achieved two A*s in Biology and Extended Project and two As in Psychology and Chemistry, has become UCSF’s first student to secure a place studying Medicine at the University of Exeter.  Commenting on her success, Pratiksha said:

“I focused really hard on my aim to become a medic and I always looked to improve after each exam I took. I am really pleased to get my place at Exeter.”

Further standout successes at the school include:

  • Ali, who achieved two As in Maths and Arabic, a C in Physics and a Distinction* in Engineering, will be attending University College London to study Civil Engineering.

  • Helia, who achieved an A* in Persian, a B in Maths and two Cs in Physics and Computer Science, will be attending Cardiff University to study Maths and Statistics.

  • Freya, who achieved an A* in Psychology, an A in Biology and a C in Chemistry, will be attending Cardiff University to study Midwifery.

  • Tom, who achieved a B in Business and a Distinction*Distinction* in Sport Science, will be taking up an apprenticeship in Finance at St. James’s Place, Cirencester.

Karen Wright, Principal at United College Sixth Form, said:

“Congratulations to our Year 13s on what is another set of excellent A Level results at UCSF. All our students have shown a real commitment to their studies over the past two years and an enduring determination to reach their goals. It is fantastic to see so many of them securing their first-choice university places and going on to take up a range of high-quality courses, from Medicine to Civil Engineering. Many thanks in particular to our excellent Sixth Form team who continue to go above and beyond to provide our students with the help and guidance they need to take their next steps into further education or the world of work.”
