Religion, Philosophy and Ethics

During this two-year course students will cover topics such as: utilitarianism, situation ethics, natural moral law, Christian ethical perspectives on issues such as marriage, sex, homosexuality animal rights, miracles, death and the afterlife arguments for and against the existence of God, the problem of evil, the ethics of war, abortion, and euthanasia. Key beliefs in Christianity and how they may be applied to the issues or theories above are also studied.

To be successful on this course students need to have achieved at least a grade 5 in GCSE English. The knowledge and skills students gained from this course are applicable to almost any university degree and are valued by employers in the public sector. This course is valued by employers in teaching, law, social work, the police force, the armed forces, journalism, media, medicine and multi-national businesses.  

The course is 100% exam based.  Students will sit 2 papers, both 3 hours long, at the end of Year 13 and will study philosophy, ethics and one religious tradition, which in our case is Christianity.
