Ever wondered if prison really does change criminal behaviour? Why some people conform? Or perhaps if the experiences you had before the age of five really do shape the person you are today? A Level psychology provides students with an understanding of the way people think and why people behave in certain ways.
Students learn a variety of skills including analytical thinking, improved communication, problem solving and many more that will prepare you for an exciting future with the possibility of a range of fantastic careers.
Students who study psychology can go on to study psychology at a higher level at university. Having a degree in psychology can lead to a career as a clinical psychologist, educational psychologist, a counsellor, forensic psychologist and health psychologist. Psychology also provides useful training for a much wider range of career options. These include market research, social work, teaching, nursing, advertising, sales, media and broadcasting, personnel management and even the police and the armed forces.
In year 1, students study approaches in psychology, psychopathology social influence, memory, attachment and research methods.
In year 2, students study relationships, aggression, schizophrenia, biopsychology, and issues and debates in psychology.
At A Level there are three exams, each account for one third of the final result. The three exams last 2 hours and are worth 96 marks each. The exams consist of multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions.
