The study of physics is relevant in the classroom and the real world.  The physics specification is a stepping stone to future study and has been developed through consulting universities, to ensure this specification allows students to develop the skills that they want to see.  This approach has led to a specification that will inspire students, nurture a passion for physics and lay the groundwork for further study in science or engineering.

This qualification is linear, which means that students will sit all the exams at the end of their A Level course.  Under exceptional circumstances there is an option to sit the AS qualification at the end of year one.

This course covers modules in the following core areas; measurements and their errors, particles and radiation, waves, mechanics and materials, electricity, further mechanics and thermal physics, fields and their consequences and nuclear physics. In addition, students can pursue one from five additional topics.  These topics are astrophysics, medical physics, engineering physics, turning points in physics and electronics.
