Comprehensive Careers Support Programme

Throughout their time at UCSF, students are provided with a wide range of opportunities to engage in career-related events as well as at least two opportunities for 1:1 careers guidance. These opportunities can be seen below.  We have a dedicated Careers Advisor, Miss Cook, who works across the whole school but predominantly with students in Years 11, 12 and 13.

We are always looking at ways to expand our careers provision for students and in 2020 we have launched the Alumni Lunch.  We encourage ex-students to stay in touch, share their successes and come back to discuss these with our current sixth form students.  At the Alumni Lunch they share their journey, whether it was at university or in an apprenticeship, so that our current students can benefit from their insights and learn from them.  Some of our Alumni members also work with current students in small groups and one-to-one as mentors, supporting them with challenges they may be facing.

As our Alumni often go on to work for fantastic employers, they are able to offer our students experiences of the workplace and we are grateful for their support.  During Year 10, all students from Swindon Academy visit two employers, so utilising our Alumni Network to find willing employers to support our student’s understanding of the workplace is really useful.

Through tutor time, PSHE and external workshops, the UCSF Team supports students in their chosen subject pathway, discussing university choices, the application process, how to write a personal statement and student finance.  During the summer term, teachers of Sixth Form students will work to provide subject references for those students applying to University, when requested.
