Business

  • Two-year A Level course
  • 9BSO
  • 4 units
  • 56 UCAS points at top level

To be successful on this course, students should have a genuine interest in business, the ability to work independently and to deadlines, the ability to work in a team, good presentation skills and good organisational and communication skills.

This qualification will open doors into a number of careers or provide a solid foundation for study at university. Past students have gone on to set up their own businesses; work in marketing or advertising, sales, chartered accountancy, retail management, the police force, sports and leisure management, manufacturing, HR, journalism and management consultancy.

Students are introduced to business in themes 1 and 2 through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work. Breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding, with applications to a wider range of contexts and more complex business information, are developed in themes 3 and 4, requiring students to take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues.

Students are encouraged to use an enquiring, critical and thoughtful approach to the study of business, to understand that business behaviour can be studied from a range of perspectives and to challenge assumptions.  Students are assessed by exam at the end of the two-year course.

Business can be studied in its own right or as part of various study pathways.  Please click the relevant links below to find out more:
