This course is a qualification with elements of psychology, law and sociology that complements studies in humanities.  During the course, students work towards an understanding of criminology and how this is relevant to society. This qualification will support learners aiming for job roles within the criminal justice sector, social and probation work and sociology and psychology.

The purpose of this course is mainly to use the qualification to support access to higher education degree courses, such as BSc or BA in Criminology, a BA Criminology and Criminal Justice, a BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology, LLB (Hons) Law with Criminology, a BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology, a BSc (Hons) Psychology and Sociology and a BSc Criminology with Law.

Alternatively, the qualification allows learners to gain the required understanding and skills to be able to consider employment within some aspects of the criminal justice system, e.g. the National Probation Service, the Courts and Tribunals Service or the National Offender Management Service.

Extended Certificate: In year 1, students complete units on changing awareness of crime and criminological theories.  In year 2, students will complete units on crime scene to courtroom and crime and punishment.  There will be a mixture of both internally and externally assessed unit.
