Fantastic Pastoral Support
Our Sixth Form Team comprehensively supports students during their studies. Students have access to a variety of support personnel, who each have their areas of expertise. Students have their own tutor who supports them in their academic progress and with any individual needs. In addition to this, students have access to a careers officer and a dedicated sixth form learning manager, two heads of sixth form and their subject teachers.
Any students identified as requiring additional learning support are offered help in a variety of ways. A key method is the use of small teaching classes so that high quality, individual learning can be offered to support students.
The wellbeing of all students is important in helping them to achieve their aspirations. All students are entitled to equal access to support from the professionals that work within the Sixth Form Team.
#Needtotalk is our Sixth Form strategy for providing the right time and space for students to have 1:1 conversations about academic or well-being related queries. This is managed through our ‘Yellow’ and ‘Blue’ slip request system with all meetings being held by our Study Managers in our wellbeing meeting room.
Students use these meetings when queries are beyond a quick question and answer. Study Managers and Directors of Sixth Form are available throughout the day in the UCSF Centre for more informal queries that students may have.
To access support through #Needtotalk, students complete a ‘Yellow Slip’ for well-being support or a ‘Blue Slip’ for academic support, prior to 9am each morning. They then receive an appointment time between 11.00 – 3.35 during the same day. Meetings are initially around 10 minutes long and during the meeting, it will be decided who needs to be involved and how often follow up will be needed.
