73% of students achieve a grade 4 or above in English and maths

25th August 2022

Students and staff at Swindon Academy are celebrating today as GCSE qualifications are awarded.

Testament to students’ hard work, 73% of Year 11s at the academy achieved a grade 4 or above in English and maths, with 61% achieving a grade 5 or above in both subjects. Securing the highest grades, 21% of students achieved grade 7 or above in English and maths.

Amongst those celebrating today are:

  • Giovana Marchetti who achieved eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;

  • Oana-Cristina Tudor who achieved six Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;

  • Leanne Fernades who achieved five Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;

  • Najina Gurung who achieved five Grade 9s and three Grade 8s

These successes follow last week’s celebrations at United College Sixth Form (UCSF) based at Swindon Academy, following the release of A Level results. With 37% of A Level entries achieving grades A*-B and 77% of entries receiving grades A*-C, UCSF students confirmed their places at top Russell Group universities across the country. Many of this year’s Year 11 students will be taking up their place at Sixth Form in September.

Commenting on students’ achievements, Karen Wright, Headteacher at Swindon Academy, said:

“We are celebrating some wonderful achievements at Swindon Academy today. It is particularly pleasing that, given the disruptions caused by the pandemic over the last two years, our Year 11s have achieved so highly. I’d also like to thank and congratulate our excellent team of staff for taking our students’ learning from strength to strength.

“I know how excited our Year 11 students are to return to the school in September to begin their Sixth Form journeys, especially after the fantastic results achieved by outgoing Year 13 students last week. I look forward to progressing our academic offering so that we can continue to offer the best possible futures for our young people.”
