There are 8 units in the Dance Diploma, covering dance performance, techniques such as Jazz and contemporary dance and techniques for live performance and community dance work. Students work towards a large scale live performance at the academy, competition work such as The Great Big Dance Off and regular professional workshops with companies in the industry such as Joss Arnott Dance and Swindon Dance. Students developing essential team work skills, high levels of self-discipline and personal management, confidence and effective communication. Progression opportunities within dance are broad. This course can lead on to higher education courses such as dance performance, education or community degrees, or professional conservatoire colleges, with career opportunities in performance, choreography, fitness and teaching, with many of our graduates currently accessing high quality degree courses across the country.
The course consists of 8 units over 2 years, 3 of which are externally assessed. This qualification allows students to acquire substantial cross-sector knowledge of dance and creates opportunities for work with visiting professionals and carry out group and individual tasks researching key dance pioneers. This wide-ranging study allows students to access a diverse and challenging vocational dance curriculum, to improve their practical technique and performance as well as their theoretical understanding of the body and dancer in practice.
NB: Shorter courses are available. Diploma in Performing Arts (equivalent to 2 A Levels).
