Training While You Teach
United Teaching is the initial teacher training programme, run by United Learning that offers the opportunity for you to train to be a teacher. Allowing you to teach from day one enables you to get the teaching qualifications you need without going back to university and without delaying the start of your career. You can train for a PGCE as well, earning 60 Masters-level credits along the way.
By training with United Teaching you will:
- Be able to achieve the professional qualifications necessary for a career in teaching
- Be part of world-class training led by outstanding schools, with sessions delivered by national educationalists
- Received individual support and mentoring from our teachers of excellence
- Have the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience with your choice of primary or secondary schools
- Have access to continuous professional development beyond your initial training period
- Enjoy a structured pathway throughout your career at United Learning

What our Recent Trainees Said:
Laura: “I found the United Teaching programme challenging but extremely rewarding. The programme fully prepared me for my NQT year, so I felt confident and ready to start. This programme is unique as you are in the classroom a lot more than other courses, meaning that you have more hands on experience, which develops you faster to become a teacher.”
“The mentoring and coaching I received throughout the whole year was extremely helpful; it challenged me to progress as a teacher. I would highly recommend this course to any future trainee teacher who wants to feel confident for their NQT year and onwards.”
Ella: “The best thing about the United Teaching training programme for me was the level of support provided. My United Teaching Mentor consistently helped me during my training year, with weekly meetings, observations and feedback sessions that enabled me to develop my practice.
“The department I trained within helped me to develop my subject knowledge and I still feel constantly supported by all of the more experienced members of the team. By training ‘on the job’ I was able to learn through observing outstanding teaching in practice on a daily basis, and test different styles to find the right fit with classes that I was able to build my own relationship with. I made progress really quickly and I feel that my transition into NQT has been easier as a result of the training and by being able to continue to teach in the same school.”
“My advice to anyone thinking about training with the United Teaching programme would be that if you want to be hands-on in your approach to training, with ‘on the job’ learning and an excellent support network, then it is the perfect option for you.”
Harriet: “For me, the best things about doing the United Teaching training programme at Swindon Academy is the teamwork where everyone strives to help students achieve their best.”
“I think training ‘on the job’ is helpful because it gives you a real perspective of what the role entails and prepares you thoroughly for life as a teacher.”
Madeleine: "After my training with United Teaching was completed
I chose to stay at Swindon Academy because of the supportive mentoring staff, opportunities for further development and positive, forward-thinking working environment.”
