In front of an audience of 600, over 100 primary and secondary students performed a series of routines that demonstrated their dancing, vaulting and gymnastic skills. Performances from all age groups included gymnastics, dance routines and of course, the high-energy vaulting displays.
Students from Swindon Academy have been busy rehearsing since September for this ever-popular Gym and Dance Display that was performed on Thursday 23rd April at the Wyvern Theatre. This fantastic show has been popular with parents, students and the community for years and again this year it showed no sign of lacking popularity, and ticket sold out for the Wyvern very quickly.
Traditionally this is a student-led performance with many of the students choreographing their own routines and selecting their own music. The show included a whole range of performances, some that were created purely for the audience’s entertainment and others, which support students’ learning. Dance Academy students worked on their routines as part of their BTEC Performing Arts studies and are graded on their final performance. The show provides a perfect opportunity for them to publicly demonstrate their skills and to get used to performing in front of a large audience.
The audience, press and theatre staff were astounded by the professionalism of the performers, the spectacular displays and the hard work and dedication that went into the event. We shall be returning again next year!
