ABC Week - Year 10 Update

ABC Week - Year 10 Update

Published on 14 July 2016

As part of ABC Week, Year 10 students have spent the week preparing for the world of work - preparing their CVs, being interviewed, interviewing Business Partners and visiting the Brunel Centre and the hospital.  Business Partners have been incredibly impressed with how hard students have been working, their professionalism and their engagement in the week's activities.  Students have commented as below:

Adam: I’m working on creating my CV and cover letter, which is really important to show employers the skills you have which will help you get a job”

“I’ve visited an engineering company today but I want to work with IT.  The visits have helped me realise what I really don’t want to do and what I really want to do, for a career”

Courtney:  “I’m researching different jobs that I’m interested in doing in the future. We are using a program called U-Explore that helps us to research a job; If you type in your interests’ it then shows you a list of jobs that are related. I have found this very helpful because I’ve found out about jobs that I didn’t know existed. The program also show you what skills and training you need to achieve that job.”

“I’ve really enjoyed visiting different businesses this week as I have learnt a lot about what goes on behind the scenes. I was really surprised by how much goes into a business like retail and how many teachers are employed to do different things."

Casey: “I have learned that in an interview situation there are many things that you shouldn’t do, like over-exaggerate your experiences because the interviewer can tell if you are lying”

Bronwyn: “During an interview, don’t act too nervous, if you play with your hands keep them by your side or place your palms on your knees if you are sitting down.”

“I would describe myself in 3 words as friendly, determined and kind, I would use these words during my interview to show I have a positive attitude”

Bianca: “If an interviewer asked me my main weaknesses, I would turn my weaknesses into a positive”
