Sixth Form
The Sixth Form is one of the most important times in a young person's life.
Swindon Academy offers a range of Level 1, 2 and Level 3 courses. In September 2010 we will be aiming to offer 15 AS Level and 18 vocational courses including CACHE Childcare and Education. Students will also have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications through ASDAN and Work Skills modules.
We work closely with Swindon College as part of our post-16 Collaboration to offer a range of additional learning pathways.
Through our Sixth Form each student has access to:
- Higher education and university courses
- Better jobs and careers
- Cultural, sporting and recreational activities
Sixth Form students are encouraged to play a significant role in the life of the Academy, participating in or running a wide range of activities (please see the separate post-16 brochure for more details).
For uniform, Sixth Formers wear the Sixth Form polo shirt or can opt to wear the Swindon Academy BTEC Sports Kit. Within the newly built 0-19 Academy is a purpose built Sixth Form Centre. Sixth Formers have their own spacious common room area, to relax and meet in. Other facilities include eight Sixth Form classrooms, two study rooms and dedicated Sixth Form ICT workstations.
Swindon Academy has a unique partnership with @Futsal where we work with them to offer a virtual Sixth Form. Players will follow level 3 educational pathway that is designed to deliver students at 18 years old into university or equip them fully for employment within the sports and active leisure sector. Players will be closely monitored by former England Futsal team manager Graeme Dell, with top performing players being chosen to go on and represent the national team at U17 and U18 level. With Futsal being a potential pilot sport at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil, it is hoped that the scholars on the programme will provide the core of the team representing Great Britain in seven years' time.
