Parent Governors
At Swindon Academy we have three governors on the Local Governing Body who are parents of children who go to our school. As parent governors they are keen to hear your views and help. Below is a little background information about them:
Simon Halls“I am passionate that children and young people in our community get the absolutely best in life. Being a governor has just been a simple way of supporting the school in its challenge and holding it to account to make sure that all students get equal opportunity and the best education and care possible!”
Martin Priest
I work full time as a parts adviser for a motor factory and I am married to Michelle. We have two children at Swindon Academy, on the Alton Close site, aged 3 and 8.
I became a school governor in order to have the chance to put my view across and contribute my time and effort to the school that my children attend. I care passionately about children's learning, well-being and progress while they are at school and the lessons and support that they receive.
As a child I was bullied at school and at home and I had very little support from my parents with homework and school issues. I had problems with certain subjects at school and didn't have the help and support that I needed. As a result I didn't do very well with my final exams and obtained poor exam results in most subjects.
I would like my children and others to realise that school is very important and that help is there if you ask. It is amazing what you can achieve if you put your heart and soul into learning; resulting in being the “best that you can be”
Tracey Wiltshire
I joined Swindon Academy as my son moved up to this school from primary. I was interested in how a senior school was run as I had experiences from only Infant and Junior schools (Key Stage 1 and 2) and I was interested in Key Stages 3 and 4.
I enjoy being a governor because I like to give my opinions when the time arises along with my own experiences at meetings. All the Governors are approachable and friendly and have made me welcome. I would like to spend more time in school than I do but due to my own work commitments I am unable to do so. I enjoy coming into school when I can and when I am free always try to attend any functions being held.
