Careers Week
All Year 10 students participated in a careers week this year with a variety of activities designed to support them, guide them and develop their key skills.
A careers fair was held to mark the start of the week’s activities and was attended by over fifty companies. The students found the experience rewarding and beneficial – with many enthusing about their career prospects.
For the next two days students undertook a number of team building exercises with the Army. These included building a crane, survival techniques and activities specifically designed increase students’ self-confidence and self-esteem. Although some were nervous at the beginning of the sessions all became quickly engrossed and a number are now keen to join the Army.
The following day students were involved in a “We’re in Business” enterprise day. The objective for the day was for each group to establish a fictitious catering company who had to tender for a special occasion. This included costing, budgeting, planning, marketing and presentation. Team work, communication and presentation skills were developed throughout the day.
The week culminated in “Careers Friday”. Students were involved in group and individual activities to enhance their knowledge of the world of work, this included careers research, CV writing, work experience, and potato creatures! The week was exhausting but extremely successful!
