Swindon Academy Festival
Each year Swindon Academy hold a festival, where the timetable is collapsed and all staff and students participate in exciting activities for two days. The theme each year varies – but always has connections to Science and Enterprise.
This year students chose a workshop from a variety of options varying from medieval cookery through to photography and soap making. The days began with a guest speaker, Ayd Instone, who delivered an inspiring talk to the students with the aid of a guitar and a harmonica!! The Science involved in each activity was identified helping students to understand how Science links to all aspects of life. The two days also centred on developing students’ enterprise skills. Staff and students had to produce items to sell and launch a marketing campaign to ensure they made as much profit as possible. Competition was fierce amongst each group – and many had innovative campaigns to guarantee maximum sales.
The event culminated in a show for all students including animations produced by them, a dance performance, and a film of the two days. Following this, students had the opportunity to sell their products at the Swindon Academy Fair, with parents invited in to participate in the festivities. The days were a great success with over £600 raised and all students involved having a fantastic time.
