Enquiry - Maths and Science
The Enquiry department consists of both Science and Mathematics. The decision to merge the two departments has resulted in many positive outcomes. It has highlighted to students how the skills acquired in one subject area are transferable to other curriculum areas and, due to the nature of the two subjects, has allowed us to work together to develop learners with analytical and inquisitive minds.
Throughout the year, we host a range of Science days at the Academy, which highlight the relevance of Science to everyday life and the excitement that Science as a subject offers. In addition to this, we run after school clubs and revision sessions for all phases throughout the year which prove to be popular. We also have numerous Science Inter House Competitions planned for the forthcoming year.
Mathematics is a crucial life skill. Mathematicians create and explore both the real and abstract world, spotting patterns and solving problem. Maths is a primary tool of modern science and technology and can be a supporting tool in so many other subjects. In addition to normal lesson time, students can further explore mathematical ideas, by taking part in the weekly Maths puzzle, joining in the UK Maths Challenge set by University of Leeds, and working with other schools and academies.
