Be The Best You Can Be
Swindon Academy has been involved with 21st Century Legacy since agreeing to be one of the first schools involved in the evaluated pilot scheme back in 2008. The programme, which initially works with year 7 students, is designed to inspire and empower young people. This is achieved through the role out of an educational programme that is launched by a British Olympian, in Swindon Academy’s case this has been Darren Campbell, Katherine Merry and this year Danny Crates.
The programme is based on the Olympic values of Respect, Friendship, Excellence, Courage, Determination, Equality and Inspiration. The intention is to develop our students’ mental and emotional focus and so inspire and equip them to achieve. Students also learn how to effectively mentor their peers and develop their individual leadership skills. Such skills will in the long term help these young people to make wiser and more informed choices about their lives
